I completed my Masters in Economic and Social History at Oxford University. I enjoyed studying topics such as Chinese economic history - a great opportunity to learn about the world’s newest superpower - and particularly the ‘Death of a Dream’ module, looking at social democracy in Britain after 1945. I got a greater insight into the history of the British welfare state (including the contribution of my namesake!) but my favourite topic was probably about how government policy has failed the nations and regions of the UK outside London and the south.

I have now started work as a trainee Maths teacher with Teach First, a charity committed to reducing educational inequality, in Hull. It’s been quite intense, but very rewarding!

Many thanks for all of the James Pantyfedwen Foundation’s support in my efforts to pursue my Masters.
