After studying religion at GCSE and Sixth Form level, I decided to further my interest and study Theology at Cardiff University. My undergraduate degree covered a wide range of themes across several religions which was very enjoyable. However, the Theology Masters programme offered the opportunity for me to focus more intensely on topics of personal interest.

Thanks to the generosity of the James Pantyfedwen Trust, I was able to study Theology at Master level without financial anxiety. The course offered study across Cardiff University, the Cardiff Baptist College and St Padarn’s Institute allowing me to meet people from a variety of denominations, creating contacts I am still using today.

I am now working as a Support Officer for the recently established Ministry Area in North Monmouthshire. This includes a variety of administrative responsibilities like recording minutes at meetings, developing a website, managing social media and maintaining communication with the Diocesan and Charity Commission offices. The job also has a practical side when I meet with clergy and parishioners at various meetings, services and events. The Support Officer role is a useful first port of call for any problems or concerns these new changes are creating, ensuring a smooth transition from Parish to Ministry Area.

My Masters undoubtedly gave me the theological background to better understand the Church in Wales’ mission and ministry. It also gave me much of the functional skills needed for this job such as computer knowledge, online programmes, and organisational skills. I am very grateful the Trust supported me through my studies which enabled me to put my passion for Theology into practice.
