St Mary's Church, Chirk
St Mary’s Church, Chirk, were keen to refurbish the existing six bells, and buy two more bells to complete the octave, and received a grant from the James Pantyfedwen Foundation to help with the costs. The members were delighted with the outcome, and at the beginning of June 2025, “the church held a very joyful and uplifting Blessing and Rededication Service attended by over 100 people, and during the following week, the bell hanger, helped by enthusiastic volunteers, hung the two new bells and rehung the existing six bells.”
The video below is a short clip of the ringing, enabling us to see and hear the bells in action, and on Saturday 5th July there will be an open tower event from 2.00 - 4.00 p.m. when anyone who wishes may come and visit the tower and see the ringers in action – and join if they so wish. CCTV has also been installed in the bells and in the Ringing Room which feeds to a monitor in the church. This makes it possible to see both the ringers and bells in action without the need to climb the tower steps!
The project is now complete. “The James Pantyfedwen Foundation’s support has been invaluable in bringing the project to a successful conclusion and we are very grateful for your interest and support.”
