York Place Baptist Church, Swansea

York Place Baptist Church in Swansea were keen to renovate the city-centre Listed Grade II Chapel to make it useful for present day use by the church and the community. The project included removing the fixed pews on the ground floor, removing the cast iron radiators and the redundant pipe organ, installing underfloor heating on the ground floor, reinstating pews in the gallery where the organ used to be, refurbishing the Bath Stone Columns, and replacing the frames of three windows.

In addition to the above work, the chapel was repainted inside and out, some lighting was changed to LED lamps,  an electronic organ was repaired and serviced, window blinds were replaced with electric ones, the PA system was replaced, additional theatre lighting was added for events, stacking chairs were purchased, some padded and others hard plastic so that they could be used depending on the requirements of users, and a portable staging system has been purchased.

All this work has resulted in the church having a flexible ground floor space. They have been able to host children’s events, the youth orchestra, various music groups, choirs, as well as other community and church gatherings. According to the Church Treasurer: “We are very grateful to the James Pantyfedwen Foundation for their grant. This was allocated towards the cost of the padded stacking chairs, which have been appreciated by all who sit on them.”
