I was very fortunate to be awarded a grant by the James Pantyfedwen Foundation to support my second year of postgraduate studies (Master of Music) in classical voice and opera at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester. The generous grant gave me the financial security to be able to focus fully on my studies without any additional worries and stress. It also allowed me the time to accept leading roles in the two operas at college (Madame Flora in Menotti's The Medium and Marcellina in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro) as well as developing a role in a new opera called Drought in a partnership between the RNCM and BBC Philharmonic.

In addition to the studies, I took part in a number of competitions and reached the final of the MOCSA Young Welsh Singer of the Year and won the two prestigious competitions for singers at the RNCM: the Frederic Cox award and the Kennedy Strauss award. At the end of the year, I was offered the role of Vava in the Welsh National Opera Youth Company's production of Cherry Town, Moscow as part of WNO's Autumn season and over the summer I got my first professional opera contract singing in the chorus for La donna del lago by Rossini at the Buxton International Festival.

I am extremely grateful to the James Pantyfedwen Foundation for their support, without which I would have struggled to afford the course fees and I would not have been able to take part in so many wonderful opportunities that will help me achieve my career goals as an opera singer.
