Rhys Dafis

I was extremely grateful to receive a scholarship from the Pantyfedwen Foundation. It enabled me to study the MA Welsh and Celtic Studies course at Cardiff University without having to worry about finding an alternative source of funding.

I thoroughly enjoyed the course, and especially the flexible nature of the studies. It enabled me to focus on a specific area of interest, namely contemporary literature and theory. I had intended to study a variety of subject areas, but compiling my first essay, which looked at post-colonialism and hybrid identities in Welsh poetry, was so interesting, that I decided to continue on the same path. As a result, I chose to write my dissertation on the subject of gender in the Welsh post-apocalyptic novel, and I was awarded the Sioned Davies prize for the best dissertation on this particular MA course. The help and support I received from the staff at Ysgol y Gymraeg, and especially my supervisors, was truly appreciated, as I tried to complete the essay while facing a number of difficulties during the pandemic.

I am now an administrator at Ysgol y Gymraeg, while also preparing my dissertation for publication.
