I would like to begin by expressing my thanks to the James Pantyfedwen Trust for the financial assistance they have given towards the completion of my MA in Politics at Swansea University. Academically, the year was my most rewarding yet. It was also, because of the pandemic, one of the toughest. Without the help of the Trust, I would certainly have struggled to get through it.

My postgraduate year has allowed me to build a multitude of important skills; from statistical analysis to designing a research project. The extra freedom afforded by the funding also allowed me to enrol on a Welsh language course with Dysgu Cymraeg. Completing this alongside my Master’s was a particularly rewarding aspect of the last year. Receiving a distinction in my dissertation project on political participation in the Welsh Independence Movement will continue to be something of which I am incredibly proud.

Despite the unusual conditions this degree was completed under, it has been a year of constant learning and growth. I now feel I am in a great position to begin a career in research and have recently started a new job as a Research Analyst for a market research company specialising in the wine industry. For this, I owe a great deal to the James Pantyfedwen Trust and the amazing people who run it.
