Ainon Baptist Church

Ainon Baptist Church in Tongwynlais decided to transform their existing church hall to create a larger, more flexible meeting space with modern facilities for the use of the church and the community. The building work began in May 2021 and was eventually completed in March 2022. The Ainon Community Hub is now ‘up and running’ and a full programme of events and services have now been agreed and finalised between the Church, Cardiff County Council and South Wales Police. These activities include a Foodbank Distribution Centre – providing emergency food for those in need; Ton’s Tots – a parent toddler group; a Lunch Club – a hot meal and company for the 55 and overs; Wellbeing Wednesday – a safe space for those who are looking for friendship, chat or just ‘to be’; and ‘Cuppa with a Copper’ - a chance to meet and discuss local issues with the Police over a cuppa. Cardiff County Council are also offering money and budget advice, Independent Living Service advice, Job Clubs, Wellbeing Living Services, and Digital Inclusion and Support.

There are also further services planned in the near future. These include a recycling collection point, a clothes bank, Restored Lives sessions for those struggling through divorce and relationship break ups, lifestyle support for making informed decisions for a healthy and financially sustainable life, Men’s Sheds offering friendship and activities for men, and Social Housing and Council Tenant forums.

“Without the generous and timely support of the James Pantyfedwen Foundation, the above would not have been possible! Thank you for helping us to help others and make a difference to people, families, and communities. Seeing the building filled with people of all ages from the community is such a wonderful sight, and it is amazing to see the impact that this new and improved facility is having. Thank you once again for your financial support of the Ainon Community Hub, a project to transform, enable and empower people and families in Tongwynlais and the surrounding villages.”
