St Mary's Church, Fishguard

The members of St Mary’s Church Fishguard were keen to make their church safer and more user-friendly for their congregation and the community. Their planned project comprised various components:

  • building an external annex with an entrance lobby, two toilets, an office/storeroom and an additional space under the annexe. The annexe has been butted up to the North wall of the church and the sloped-roof structure housing the heating boiler has been removed. A doorway has now been opened under the two windows of the North wall, providing internal access from the annexe into the main church;
  • creating a refreshments server in the south aisle of the church. The woodwork has been carefully finished to match the existing woodwork found in the church. Hidden in the cupboards, as well as storage shelves, are a sink, dishwasher, microwave and hot water heater;
  • the balcony also needed to be cleared and made safe by the installation of clear glass screens;
  • the driveway has been raised to be level with the church entrance, and a new retaining wall built to protect people from a six foot drop to ground level in the area of the annexe entrance.

Completion of this project has made a major contribution to making the church more user-friendly as a community building and the members are very grateful to the donors and grant-providers who have helped it to become a reality.
