St Illtud's Church, Church Village

St Illtud’s Church is a Grade II listed building situated in Church Village, Rhondda Cynon Taff.  This latest project aimed to ensure the safety of the tower as it was shedding the 1970’s cement cladding on the outer walls.  Water was being retained in the original stonework as the incorrect cladding had been applied in the 1970’s, and paintwork in the interior was degrading and damp becoming a problem.

The cladding has now been totally replaced with the correct lime based render allowing the tower to ‘breath’ again.  Extra ventilation has been ensured by reopening vents blocked up in the 1970’s, bat and bird prevention measures installed and the exterior repainted. Doors have been renovated and allow easy opening and closure.  The Church is to re-open at the end of November (Advent Sunday) in a now people-safe manner.

The Benefice is most grateful to the Foundation as a part-funder for its help in permitting the tasks to be completed.
