St Cynwyd's Church, Llangynwyd

St Cynwyd’s Church is a listed church of historic interest, situated in the beautiful hilltop village of Llangynwyd, near Maesteg, in the Diocese of Llandaff.  The church is central to the life of the local community of Llangynwyd and is the focal point for church services, weddings, funerals, concerts, and a well-known Annual Quilting Festival.

The last Quinquennial Report found that the extreme weather conditions had exposed many external problems, and thanks to fundraising efforts and grants, building work has been completed on St Cynwyd’s Church. This work included repairing and replacing broken slates on the roof, repairing the lead flashing, cleaning all guttering to the nave, chancel and porch, and replacing the downpipes and guttering, repointing parts of the church stonework, walls and window surrounds, lime washing the east gable of the nave above the chancel, and painting windows and doors.

The church and its members are very grateful to the James Pantyfedwen Foundation for the grant that has helped them at this very distressing and worrying time, with the awful weather conditions over the winter and the present coronavirus situation. However, it is great to report that all the work has been completed, protecting the fabric of the church and ensuring that the congregation and visitors to the church will enjoy a warm and welcoming visit.
