During the last twelve months, I have been studying for a Masters degree in International Public Law at Groningen University in the Netherlands. I’m pleased to report that it has been a successful year – I have passed all the courses and completed my thesis, and will graduate with honours (cum laude) on the 21st of August.

The last year has offered me many new experiences and opportunities, including meeting people from all parts of the world, making friends for life and seeing the world from the perspective of an overseas student. The course itself was most interesting. One valuable experience was working with others to advise a Greek organization specialising in human rights. We had to produce a report for them and present the results to students and teachers, a completely new experience for me and one that certainly helped me develop even further.

I have now returned from the Netherlands and am applying for jobs to commence my career. I will soon start on a temporary post with the civil service in Wales, and my aim is to secure a permanent post within the civil service in Cardiff, working for the Welsh or UK government.

When I applied to the James Pantyfedwen Foundation a year ago, I hoped that the course would widen my horizons and help to develop my confidence and skills for the workplace. This has certainly proved true and it would certainly not have been possible without the support of the Foundation. Thank you very much indeed.
